My first exposure to “conscious parenting” was when I watched the best selling author and clinical psychologist, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, onย Oprah’s Life Class back in 2014. I found myself mesmerized by the discussion about “a revolutionary way to parent”. ย I remember pausing the DVR and frantically pulling out a piece of scrap paper and pen from my nightstand so I could jot down the pearls of wisdom that were being transmitted to me through the TV airwaves. It seemed as if this stunning, articulate, cutting edge parenting expert was talking directly to me. ย “Your child acts as your mirror…” she explained. It all resonated so profoundly with me. I was realizing aha moment after aha moment. Something deep in my heart shifted that day. It felt magical, exciting and special and it most certainly was an experience I will forever cherish. ย It was the beginning of my journey into Conscious Parenting.ย Check out this clip from Dr. Shefali’s appearance on Oprah’s Lifeclass

I’ve been traveling on the Conscious Parenting path for about two and a half years now. ย I continue to learn and grow and have connected with an amazing Tribe. We listen to one another’s stuggles, we understand parenting is challenging, we hold the space for one another to grow and thrive. And we all have the common goal of being the very best parent we can be for our children. ย I’m grateful for the lessons I have learned, the lessons I am learning right now and the lessons I hope to continue to learn in this amazingly supportive community.

Dr. Shefali’s latest book, The Awakened Family, is an absolute game changer. The NY Times best-selling author explores our triggers as parents, debunks parenting myths, and teaches fresh, new, conscious parenting approaches that have endless potential to restructure the whole parenting paradigm. The Conscious Parenting way has literally transformed my family and allowed me to connect deeply and authentically with my children and myself. ย Start your Awakened journey here

A couple of weeks ago on her Facebook page, Dr. Shefali posed this question to us, “What would your prescription for conscious parenting be?” I took a moment to reflect and the words began flow effortlessly (as the truth often does). Inspired by all I’ve read, heard, and learned from Dr. Shefali Tsabary, Here’s my response:

Conscious Parenting
To be instead of do.
To listen with the intent to understand.
To look inward instead of outward.
To feel feelings instead of masking them.
To practice the pause often.
To be in neutral.
To eliminate polarity and enter oneness.
To accept the as is.
To understand your children’s experience as their unique soul’s journey.
To embrace the fact that you are not the driver, rather the passenger lucky enough to be on the ride with you children.
To slow down, savor and smile knowing what is simple and true.
To learn to believe your intuition and trust your heart.
To make it a priority to honor, nurture and care for yourself.
To be grateful for the children who are raising you and helping you to reach your highest self.
To be rooted in abundance rather than lack.
To be free and fly like the butterfly we are all meant to be.
Stay Positive,
